Empathy for the Figure is a one-on-one encounter that fills the distance between a performer and an audience member. Each performance is a unique and improvised treatment, guided by the corresponding intuitions and varieties of presence developed between the performer and audience member. The work intentionally blurs the lines between performance and service, dance and bodywork, and audience and client, in an effort to generate a liminal act of art in which the viewer’s sensation becomes the ephemeral artifact.
